P&W R-985 Side Project. Bonus mini projects.

Alrighty,
For this update I've got the rockers, rocker push rods, and sparkplug assembly done.

Spark plug assembly,
I used a circle cutter to get myself a ring out of 4 laminated 130lb card. I then used my new fancy new sanding wheel I made (Bonus mini project 2) to sand down the edges of the ring to make it look circular. I think it came out quite nice. The wire leads for the spark plugs are made out of string painted bronze. It was a simple addition to the overall detail of the engine.

Rocker arms,
also laminated 130lb card 8 layers thick. cut to shape then sanded to perfection.

Rocker push rods,
These rocker rods are made out of toothpicks sanded down with a 400gt paper.
They came out super smooth. I then pained them with a DecoColor oil based metallic paint marker. The paint requires at least 24hrs to dry otherwise it looses all the sheen. Oil based paints get really shiny, I've got a few of them.

My favorite bonus mini project I put together is the blue box. I made it to hold all of the bits for my Japanese Drill. Square of foam inside to hold everything in place then painted blue and bronze. It is soooo much better then the individual baggies that all the bits were in before hand.

Next on the build is gonna have to be either the air intake on the back of the engine or the propeller. Since the prop is so big on this build I think I may try to get creative and make a constant prop propeller... I've got an idea on how to do it. Whether it's doable out of paper or not has yet to be determined.

Stunning work there. I reckon when you get that prop on, try swinging it. I wouldn't be surprised if that Wasp actually fires......

The engine is amazing, but I want to again compliment your cockpit work. The instrument panels are detailed and accurate and event he seats have texture and surface detail that are missed in 2D printing.
