The Chester 'Goon' first appeared at the 1938 National Air Races. Piloted by designer Art Chester, it took 2nd place in the Greve Trophy Race. He took 1st place honors in the 1939 Greve Race. He named his creations after Popeye cartoon characters; Jeep, Goon and Swee Pea. It was in Swee Pea he was killed when he crashed during a meet in San Diego in 1949.
As a matter of interest, Art Chester worked during WWII for North American Aviation and he designed the prop spinner and engine front cowling on the P-51.
This is a Fiddlers Green model with some of my own mods.

It's good to see these less popular, but significant aircraft represented.

Thanks Pericles.

Ryan, these planes, their designers, builders and the pilots that flew them (often the same person doing all three) will always stay relevant in the minds of enthusiasts like us, but sadly are otherwise meaningless to most folk these days. When you see old videos and read about the public interest, turnout to flying events and celebrity worship of aviators in the Golden Age, it hits home that flying is largely taken for granted these days. The price of progress I guess......
