Your canopy(s) should arrive today.

Thanks to you, Greg, here it is with the canopy on! Looks cool. As you can see, I cut it up so it could be posed open. Attaching the paper to the clear plastic was...interesting. I ended up going with the nuclear option of contact cement. That was nerve-wracking. Only a few swear words and miss steps. Lucky St. Greg already sent my Christmas gifts. I also started the last parts including the landing gear components. I sprayed the fabric control surfaces a slightly different silver to make them stand out just a tad. I may mask off a few body and wing panels too. We'll see. I also added a couple of coats of tacky glue to the wing tip lights and then painted them with Tamyia clear red or green. Pretty convincing.
On to the oleos, wheels and prop! Thanks for looking and happy weekend...Dan |

What Don said!
The canopy looks great. Just love not having to make one from scratch.... Greg

Thank you very much Don, Greg and Mike! Almost done now...
I started the main landing gear and also got the tail wheel started. I did modify the main gear by putting two little stretched plastic bits of sprue along each strut and into some holes in the "wheel well" as this was more stable and, lo and behold, is as per the original! The model calls for (I think) just one piece of wire directed aft. Neat and clean. I'll do the tires, and then the rest of the wheel pants and she'll be done tomorrow. Thanks for looking, Dan |

Good job Dan and you sure have a way of telling a story around the build .
Canopies are always the biggest challenge.... Cheers, Erik |

Thank you very much, Erik and Don!
I finished the P-35 tonight so here is a teaser shot. I'll do better pictures tomorrow and make a new post to explain some of my changes/additions. It sure is a neat little ship and I'm pleased that whoever did the measurements and inking did a dang good job. Cheers, Dan |

I've been following your build.
If I may request as much, would you please answer a few questions I've got when you post your final photos. What were some of the parts to the build that you found to be difficult to fit or shape correctly? What is some detail that had you not been the one to build it, you'd not know it was a thing? What tools other than standard knife and ruler did you find to be most useful? I've built a few modelik in my time, and have been left wanting more in regards to the artwork of the model. Did this one offer some variety in colors/weathering in the print? Regardless, your work is impressive. I've enjoyed following the build progress and seeing it come together. You've done a wonderful job with it. Perhaps next year if you're able to attend, bring it to the IPMC so we may admire the work you've put into it in person. Have you got any ideas for the next kit??? |
