Cool F-104C GPM in 1/33

I decided to finally build the GPM model of the F-104C Starfighter. I purchased it along with the Kartonowa Kolekcia F-104G in West German colors.

The build on the F-104G is here :
F-104G Starfighter- Kartonowa Kolekcia 1/33 scale

and here is the finished F-104G for reference:

The two models take different approaches to the fuselage building and I will talk about it later during the build.

The F-104C is in US Air Force Scheme and externally you will notice that the vertical fin is set more forward compared to the G version

More soon

Another great project Isaac. I'm sure this will turn out as good as your previous efforts.

This will be a great build Isaac. I'm looking forward to see the Starfighter come together.

Well done. The tip tanks are especially smooth.

I am still debating as to the loadout for this version of the F-104C. The kit provides 5 drop tanks. That is usually a ferry configuration since the Starfighter was a short legged fighter.

Anyhow, there is time to think about it.

What can I say, one of my favorite liveries of the F-104 along with the German Navy!

Cool The kit

The GPM model of this Starfighter is different than the KK version primarily in the level of detail ( lots of parts in the afterburner for example ). Secondly and more important, GPM version has the the engine air intake "cheeks" separate from the fuselage. When attached, you will notice a sharp demarcation with the fuselage. On the KK version it is blended ( which I believe is more correct ).

Another difference is that the GPM kit offers two silver models in the same booklet. One is matt finished ( which I selected to build ) and also a shiny version. So if you want, you can build two models or give one away to a friend ( but you will need to scan and print the page containing the white wings as there is only one set.

Here is the kit

and the matt and shiny pages compared.

Exclamation Fuselage-let's start

Here are all the fuselage parts laid out. Mostly cones and cylinders
F-104C GPM in 1/33-img_6150.jpg

Notice that the side cheeks for the engine intake are separate and will be added on to the fuselage later. This is a departure from the normal convention in that they should be a continuous part of the fuselage rather than an add on.

You're off to a great start. It's going to be a beautiful fuselage.

Important:
Add nose weights to prevent a tail seater ( Not 100% sure it is needed, but better add it now than be sorry later ).
