P-27 Kestrel
Hello all...
Some time ago, I thought I'd create a set of fictional aircraft, models designed to be simple builds, able to be completed in an evening. The first, and so far the only, model completed is the P-27 Kestrel. In the U.S. military series of aircraft, what would have been the P-27 never materialized, so I decided to fill in the gap with this make-believe plane. Construction is as simple as it can be. A round toothpick supports the wing and provides a bit of airfoil look. The landing gear legs are also round toothpicks wrapped with colored cardstock pieces. I suppose one could also simply color the toothpicks. A flat toothpick supports the horizontal tail pieces. And that's it. Easy. Perhaps the Kestrel would be a good model for a young modeler to build. |

Yes, thank you for sharing!
The design is not far from other actual planes of the period! |

Nice work Larry R. You could go the full thing and create a fictional legend about the 'full size' P-27......

Hello, all....Thanks for the positive feedback.
Rata, I haven't found great deal of information on the P-27. Apparently it was chiefly an export fighter purchased in small numbers by Lower Slobbovia and others places. Also, used in the air national guard of Texas, though I'm not fully sure about this. There is evidence that one example was purchased by Howard Hughes who modified the Kestrel for air racing. None of this information, however, is from reputable sources, so....

My thought exactly. It's a good look. Give it blue/yellow scheme for even more vintage look.
Or make it entirely green and give it Kuomintang Chinese livery. They flew motley of planes in this exact period. |
