Exclamation Air intakes

Here are the side air intakes for the engine. They are conformal and indented with a long shovel like shape.

My fit was OK, not great. I think the results are dependent on the technique used. I glued one side, let it dry and then the other side. Since it is indented, careful alignment is important. I will re color the edges.

A side note: There is no boundary layer separator in this model. The designer decided on a simple model of moderate complexity.

I would like to see a more complex version of the Lansen that incorporates them, separate flaps and control surfaces and also has a landing gear bays.

Exclamation Aft fairing

The Lansen horizontal fin placement is similar to the North American F-86 Sabre. It is mounted on top of the rear fuselage and has a fairing with flat sides to allow the fins to rotate without binding.

Here are the parts

and installed.

Welcome back Isaac. The fuselage is coming together nicely.

Hi Isaac, a very good looking build up so far. I must admit never heard of this aircraft before. There's a bit of Hawker Hunter into the shape I'd say.
Indeed, 160 grams of paper is the best choice for 1:33 aircraft models. And photopaper is very hard to glue, apart from its stiffness.

Good luck, I will follow this one.

Fuselage parts look very nice Isaac. Happy you had a good time at the show. In 2015 I was 4 dayes at Oshkosh, came back with 1500 pictures. Was planing to be at the 2019 airshow, but the Korona changed every thing.

Thank you Gary, Erik and Shalom Mor,

Yes, the fuselage is taking shape. It is a large model, but nothing complicated.

I guess the wing shape is similar to the Hunter, but that is all. The Lansen is much larger in cross section to accommodate more systems and fuel internally ( even though it has this grotesque underbelly fuel tank that looks like a cancerous growth; this was also common to some early British fighters like the Gloster Meteor and the Supermarine Attacker ).

As for the paper, yes I'm using 160 gsm.

I never use photo paper for my models! It is not designed for any manipulations, rounding or gluing!

Exclamation Nose section

Continuing with the dreaded petal design for the RADOM and mated with the next section

SAAB J32 Lansen- IPMS Austria 1/33 scale-img_6823.jpgSAAB J32 Lansen- IPMS Austria 1/33 scale-img_6824.jpg

ready to mate to the rest of the fuselage
SAAB J32 Lansen- IPMS Austria 1/33 scale-img_6825.jpg

and with all 3 fuselage sections now.
SAAB J32 Lansen- IPMS Austria 1/33 scale-img_6826.jpg

Note: I decided to stay with the petal design because this is a very simple model with limited details. I originally thought of vacuforming the RADOM nose like I did with the Yak-25M ( http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/671882-post28.html ), but decided not to spend all that effort to custom build the nose. Maybe when the model is ever redesigned, I will reconsider the nose then.

Great work Isaac!

As you say the rear part of the fuselage (bulge with stabilisers) resembles F-86 very much.
Not an easy thing to design, I know that from my experience

Kind regards

This rear fairing was an easy solution ( for the full scale aircraft ) when you want to keep the rear simple with the mechanism and pivots all within that housing on top.

Also, it allowed for a round rear fuselage since the pivoting was only within the flat sides of the fairing only which was small compared to today's all moving horizontal fins.
