Chewing gum and string
This is my first trip into the world of aircraft. Although I did make a 1:300 scale airport with vintage planes.
Airport This one is a bit bigger at 1:24 scale. It's the Wright Flyer 1 from Schreiber. The instructions are quite basic, but I guess this would apply to the plane as well. The first part of the construction is a template the same width of the model at about 20 inches. This helps produce the shape of the wings. Once they are made it's just a matter of cutting out all the "woodwork". There is a supply of thin strips of paper that match the many laminated strips of card making the undercarriage I was pleasantly surprised at the fit of all the "wooden" bits. Adding the strings helped to keep it all straight and strong - Just like the original ! This makes a nice model to add to my "collection" of vintage vehicles. It's a shame it's not steam powered ;-)) Cheers Mike |

Such a nice build, Mike. I was just wondering if you've ever had a crack at Leonardo's flying machine.

Great diorama. I've got the Sopwith Wright to build one of these days.

Thanks for all the comments. They are much appreciated.
As for the Leonardo machines - They are a bit too "theoretical" for me. But I guess most of the world would have said the same about the Wright Flyer ;-) Cheers Mike |
