@ Bomarc,
Yeah, the XB/YB scheme is very nice.. Or the one in Willygoat's museum, then you have a model of one of the remaining plane's and Brett as deep throat, when you need details |

B-58 gear retraction geometry
Here's a fun site from Japan. These are little animations of the landing gear retraction geometries of various aircraft. Here's the basic home page:
Retraction geometry And if you've ever wondered how the B-58 tucked away it's nose gear with that big weapons pod hanging down: B-58 nose gear Enjoy! Mike

This is another one I'll be watching closely. Attached is a pic of a project I started long ago when trying an enlargement of the WMHFN kit. It stopped when the fit problems became obvious....I was intending starting from 3-views, but I can now go on to other things while the master does the work. May this pic get you salivating enough to quickly give the modeling community a long-needed kit. I hope you also take on the escape capsules....wouldn't one of them (in 1/16) look great to sit along side once this beauty is done?

My first job in the Air Force was as a fuels specialist...basically a gas pump jockey for aircraft. It was a job I enjoyed, as I was able to get up close and personal with a lot of aircraft.
But to learn the job, I was sent to the now closed Chanute AFB near Rantoul, Illinois...a nice place and not far from here home then. One part of the training was approaching aircraft in the 5,000 gallon fuel trucks of the time. Before we climbed in the trucks, ways to approach aircraft were drawn on a blackboard, safety factors discussed, then we'd move on to another type of aircraft to discuss. Finally, we would be put in the trucks and let loose around the 'birds.' Depending on the type of refuel the aircraft required (over-the-wing or single-point), the approach was varied to some degree. One of the aircraft we practiced on was the then recently retired, B-58 Hustler. I don't remember much about the aircraft, but I do recall it was from Grissom AFB in Indiana. Every time I approached the aircraft in one of the trucks we used, I was amazed as to how large it was. And when I got on up next to the aircraft and looked closely at its sleek design, I was amazed. It was and still is, one of the most beautiful aircraft designed. I'd be happy with any version of the aircraft.

Used to be a B-58 hulk (complete but for engines) off of the SE end of the runway at Little Rock AFB (B-58 Wing based there earlier). Yes, this was a while ago when they still had Titans in the ground on alert. Even in that state it was a beautiful machine.
I've heard they planned to restore it and put it in the air park - don't know the current status or location. Yogi |

Just for fun, here's a couple of pics I snagged of the Hustler's cockpit. I was on the top step of a ladder, so they aren't super great, but show some detail
