FG Me-163

Not really a build thread, but... I didn't know where to put it.

Anyways (clears throat)

For those of you who don't know, Chip of Fiddlersgreen asked me to redraw the Messerschmitt Me-163, and bring it up to the new FG standards.

It's not finshed yet (Seems when you scale a few minor errors up 300%, they become not so minor errors) but I thought I'd give you guys an idea of what your getting.

As a reference, here's the original large size (the shiny round thing is a penny):

Here's the wing of the new large size:

(if you're wondering, the penny is one I made up in photoshop. so technically it's a card model too. I use it so I look like I can build in braille scale too. i.e., never trust my photo's as to scale:p)

And now (drumroll please), I give you both in the same picture:

As you can see, the wing is now of the pass though type, so no more having to hold it still while you hope the glue grabs and dries.
-----------------------------------
Oh, and for the versions I'm going to submit, I was thinking...

and...

(This is for those guys that want more Japanese fighters :P)

I've waited a long time for this, and with those two schemes, it's a bonus!

Yeah murph! I knew something was fishy about that penny. I learned a long time ago never to trust any of your size comparing photos. The jumbo #11 blade is still fresh in my mind. :D Can't wait to see this baby finished up.

Look forward to the redraw as well. Even the original FG builds into a fine model.

I'd like the versions to stay within operational or planned operational schemes.

Looking forward to the versions. As much as I like the redraws, I sometimes wish that Chip keeps the originals as well. They have a charm all their own and got me started on this hobby.

jagolden01 - nice build thread!

I went to your website; you made that FG Me 163 look really good!

In case you have not been there in awhile, the Me-163 is no longer at the 8th AF Museum. I went there last Oct hoping to show my son. I forgot what is in its place. I hear tell they are trying to or have already acquired a B-17.

What is cool, is that they have an operable waist gun simulator that the kids just love; you get to shoot at an Me 109 or Fw 190; I can' remember which.

Thanks, guys. Can't wait for murph's redraw and repaints. Will definitely do another build on it, probably at 1:24 since I've settled on that for plane scale.

Hear that, murphyaa? See if you can get Chip to release in a slightly higher resolution, say 200-250 dpi? 1:16 would be a nice build scale for this also.

Anything Chip lets you share with us as you move along will be eagerly awaited and ingested!

Well, all new FG Models are drawn at 200 dpi. That's part of the new standards.

And I'm posting concurrent threads here and in the FG forums, to advertise the new redraw...

...and to advertise the fact that I'm going to redesign the P-38 next.

New pic. the redraw is almost done. I just need to finetune a few fit areas, and some graphics.
