LeRhone Engine
Thanks everyone!
Paperwarrior: build it, you'll love it and loads of fun to boot! Peter: The cockpit/fuselage was some of the most fun I've ever had with a paper model. Willygoat: I love FG models. As you say they can be taken as far as you want but are easy to build. And, if you just build stock, you still end up with a nice model. _____________ LeRhone Engine The engine that's supplied with the model comes in 2 versions - very simple and more detailed. It is a LeRhone Rotary engine, the kind where the entire engiine spins around the shaft, not just the propeller. I downloaded another LeRhone engine papermodel (can't remember from where - again!). However, I ended up using the FG supplied engine with just a couple of bits from the other model. First picture is the basic engine block - simple. Next pic shows the cylinder builds. I stretched out the drawing then wrapped/glued around a narrow dowel. This is the easiest way to form little cylinders like this. After they dried, I carefully trimmed off the top of the dowel and then trimmed and pointed the bottom. This would be inserted into the engine block and be much more secure than simply glueing the cylinder to the blocks flat surface. After all cylinders were glued and dried, I added some of the little bits of detail. Rocker pieces, pipes, push rods, etc. In the end it builds up to a nice engine. Like the cockpit it was loads of fun. Thanks for looking! |

This is astonishing! My apologies for not commenting any sooner. The level of realism
just blows me away! You made mention of my turnbuckles but I can't see you having *any* problems or issues with anything you decide to model. That engine is beautiful and the nacelle.....I can almost see the veneer laminations that went into making it! I can't wait to see more Ron

Nice radial! Those rotating radials still astound me how they could possibly work! And in such fragile craft of the day!
