Model Art P-51D (recolor)

I have to have a Mustang :D

This is a recolor of Model Art's P-51D E2-A kit and it will be available through Moshe's website.
I did all the dirty work and Ryan Short did the most important and most difficult - research to what the heck was on the other side of this plane (all the photos I know were showing only the left side) and created both names.
Ryan,
Those two first shots are for you.

Changes in relation to the original kit:
- removed all the unnecessary symmetry lines
- added panel line and riveting on the engine cowling
- corrected airplane markings
- corrected serial number
- darkened camouflage to get better Olive Drab color
- added "Sky Bouncer" and "Winifred" stencils on the fuselage
- added lights on the right wing

Mike, if you are talking about the recognition lights (red, green, amber) they should appear only on the lower side of the right wing near the tip. I found this info from a period tech manual here. My copy of Zarkov's E2-A has them under both wings, uncolored. They should be red, amber, green from forward to aft. See here for additional info.

Great start, Mike. Good contribution from the redoubtable Ryan Short and nice research inputs by the Superannuated Squid.

How did you convince the good Dr to let you recolor the kit?

I asked Moshe if he would be interested and he accepted.
Model will be still sold as Emil's design - Ryan and I are only getting recognition for the recolor.

At one point in time I wanted to recolor this kit as well. Did you guys get the unencrypted files or did you have to work around that?

Turns out that Inkscape lets you open the PDF in vector format :D
What markings did you have in mind? Major Shomo's "The Flying Undertaker" by chance? It would be great to finally have a Pacific Mustang...

Will,
Just a tease
Maj. William Shomo is the only ace who never flew in a fighter squadron. His was 82nd Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron.
During WW2 he flew over 200 combat missions yet only saw 14 Japanese planes. Out of this number he shot down 8, 7 during single mission when together with his wingman attacked a bomber escorted by 11 Ki-61 Hiens and one Ki-44 Shoki.
For this action he received Congressional Medal of Honor.
