Website update: WW2 art
This is paper, this is airplanes...but they're not "card models."
Again, if this is getting tiresome to you all, just say so and I'll stop. But a number of people in the Aviation section have encouraged me to post about my WW2 activities, so I'm doing so. Anyway.... Some of you know that I experience some fascinating WW2 history. But for those that don't, as a hobby, I interview WW2 pilots and draw their planes. Recently, a woman presented me with a series of letters written by her dad while he was attached to the 398th BG. He wasn't an airman, but a Norden bomb sight tech. Regardless, he was a sketcher, decorating the envelopes of letters to his new wife with pictures of airplanes and combat. Over the next while, I'm going to be posting scans of these letters. My website is at: http://www.johnmollison.com The link is on the bottom - the artist is James S. Hester. I hope you find these interesting...expect a new one every couple of weeks.

Very nice website. The envelope vignettes are beautiful. It would be great to receive mail like that.

Great stuff. I'm always glad when you post here to let us know of your latest work. The art work is terrific and the interviews are wonderful living history.

Just wait...there's more.
Being direct - my piece-by-piece strategy is to help me establish a greater web presence in the hopes of attracting an agent. But, it's also easier right now - far quicker to add envelope art one at a time instead of putting the whole lot up all at once. I get to see the dangdest stuff... Anyway, glad you all like it. I'm posting only on two boards - this and one I've been a member of since the mid-90s. Please - you won't hurt my feelings to tell me to take it somewhere else. However, please know that I am trying to contribute to the cause of cardmodeling by repainting ecardmodels kits in the markings of airplanes I've done. It's slow, but hopefully I'll contribute to the greater good around here! (laughs).

Wily,
I guess I should write more than five words this time. There are a lot of us on this forum who appreciate the historical context of the models we build as much as the models themselves. Your work preserves a whole layer of history that might otherwise be lost or overlooked and an intimacy often lacking in the standard texts. No one is going to tell you to take it somewhere else, probably quite the opposite. Be careful what you wish for though, if you ask around, you may end up with more story leads than your travel budget would allow<G>
