The super constellation L-1049 had a longer fuselage(18 feet)which provided more space for cargo and made the "speedpack" obselete-it wasn't very popular to begin with. The super connie could have the shorter nose of the earlier versions if the customer didn't want radar. Also the 1049 had provision for aux tanks on the wingtips-these were removable and could even be dropped from the cockpit in an emergency. The windows were square and the windscreen had seven, rather than nine panels. The PRTs(turbo compound)that Shrike mentions were introduced in the 1049c model-earlier models had conventional turbo-superchargers.

Billy,

The engines, wing shape, fuse length all look right. I didn't count the windows, but they "seem" correct. The engine exhausts look correct, so I think you found a good one. However, the nose is not the same. The military version I am doing has a radar (black) extended nose.

The first picture shows the speedpack. I can't find any evidence that it was used in military variants.

The remaining pictures show one of the engines in place. I guess I should have used a black marker inside the exhaust tubes. Don't worry too much about the engine graphics... you won't see much of it after the prop and air diverter are in place.

I guess I was getting my Connie variants mixed up.
The Speedpack would be a neat add-on for the right commercial repaint, and a good exercise for the various EC-121 belly radomes tho'

I keep forgetting this a 1/72nd scale model. The precision of those cowlings is amazing.

Thanks guys! And coming from you, Mike, that IS a compliment!

I didn't get too much done tonight, but I did manage to get a couple of main wheels and tires finished. I placed a quarter next to the wheels for size reference. I do have all of the landing gear parts designed and printed; just have to finish building... The last picture is Molly, our spoiled Bichon. She's laying on the arm of my wife's easy chair. This is what they do when I'm busy in the man cave!

Gettin' real close to the finale!
