Hang in there Dan! I'm looking forward to seeing how your build turn's out. I'm "learning to walk" with some fantastic ModelArt kits (P-40 and P-51) and some invaluable advice from Gerrardo. I'm building up the courage to try a Halinski kit! Good luck and it looks like you are off to a fantastic start!

Hi Barrel Roll,
Those kits come as a booklet with all the parts and diagrams to build them.
I'm assuming that you are new to the hobby and if this is true I would suggest some free downloadable kits to familiarize yourself with this form of modeling. The only thing you will be risking then will be the time
Halinski's kits (like this P-51C) are top of the line and they are not really suitable for beginners.

Hunh. Dan. I noticed in your sig that you had started this kit. I absolutely LOVE it. There's a build thread hovering around somewhere but you can safely ignore it. It is one of my 4 or 5 prized builds. Just a super job by the folks that are the best in the business.

Now that I've blown smoke up your kazoo, are you going to finish it?

Carl

Well Carl, I plan on finishing it. Currently my progress consists of the framing of the cockpit glued together and edge painted, and the lower IP box formed and waiting on the pedal assembly. I got into other builds, and have generally had little time to build. One of the things that I realized is that I wanted a bit more practice in general - so I plod along on cockpit details when my rare time finds me modelling and I am waiting for glue to dry on the other projects.
And I have references to 3 or 4 different build threads including yours Carl for when I need them. This model has been covered well on the foreign boards as well, so I don't think I'll run into any grey areas.

It's good to know that you are still plugging away on this one Dan.

Good job pluggin on this beauty,Dan. Some models are a bit much to set any deadlines for yourself (speaking of my ship!) I think this is one of Halinsky's "best" and my fav mustang, although I haven't considered this one until I get some others done! I have 2 designs nagging me too........
so many planes, so little time!

Wow - started 18 months ago! Hard to believe - but now that it's active again it's got to be the longest running active build thread here I'm actually getting some progress done.
When trying to punch the instrument panel, my punch started ripping the paper, so I had to get out my handy-dandy hobby hammer I've had since I was a wee lad and 'punch' the holes that way using the bits. (Pic #1 is results, pic #2 shows the hammer).
Picture 3 shows current status of everything - the pedal assembly isn't glued in because I want to make sure the IP fits over it where it's glued. I tried a number of methods to get a good picture of the IP showing the clear 'glass' effect, and #4 is the best I could do.

You must have had hard time punching out holes where holes are closely placed. Very nicely done!
