A quick update....

I have started laying out the basic shapes for the SR-71. Unfortunately, I can't post any pictures yet..., but I can say this: It's gonna be a really fun build. When I do finally start sending pics, I'll try and post plenty of them. I believe people use these threads for future reference.

Billy will post pictures of the model during the actual build. The pictures that I post will tend to be "development pictures" using blue cardstock.. to verify the correct shapes etc... I have to build verification assemblies to prove out buildability so that Billy won't have to print out the parts several times - the black ink will put him in the red.

This thread will be a little more lengthy than most due to the complexity and detail required (including the start cart), so stay tuned and enjoy!!!

Ken

Ken, I am sure I echo everyone else who is interested in this thread and model when I say....Can't wait! I think the wait for this model to be developed will be agonizing. LOL!

Ken, I have to wear a bib because I can't stop drooling! Can't wait for this one. A little over a year ago I posted (in the Design request suggestions of this forum) for someone to design a good SR-71 model. A couple of people sent me a couple of links to some models but they just weren't great. Based on your past work this will definately live up to my expectations. REALLY CAN'T WAIT!

Hey Ken. If you need any more reference materials, I have this book, plus a few others that have a lot of images and drawings, including full detail and color shots of the cockpits and instrument panels.

Another thing I thought if is to wonder if you might include the D21 as well:

Pima has one of those as well, and I could get some shots if you need them.

To all,

I have been steadily working on the Blackbird. This is the stage in the process where there isn't much to show. Lots of lines and surfaces - deletes and startovers...

The SR-71 is BY FAR the most complicated airframe I have attempted to replicate. But I think I finally have a handle on it.

Billy, if you don't mind, I can send you the inner structure and outer skin (less openings & details and no graphics), just to test the buildability of the main aircraft. Very little ink involved on this trial run. But this step sure saves a lot of time down the road when adding gear openings and cockpit details..

Sorry for the silence, but trust me.... it's coming and no disappointments after the wait...

Ken

To all,

Just a verbal update on the SR-71. I have been talking to Billy about the challenges this bird has been giving me. I had to start over a couple of times - the approaches I took just were not rendering the "charactor" I was hoping to achieve (every aircraft has a charactor or certain stance/look/presence...). And this aircraft has 'em all! So, since I am never one to give up easily, I started over again on Saturday morning, and I am please to say that I finally got what I was looking for! The proportions are correct, angles accurate, and the fuselage chines and fillets are there.... I should be posting pictures very soon. Thanks for your support and patience.

Ken
