Sort of a necro post, but I am getting ready to embark on building this plane. After poring over the instructions in order to identify challenges and how to approach them, the one that stood out the most was skinning the fuselage. The way the instructions explain how to do it makes little sense, so I have a couple questions for billy (beautiful build, btw!):

1. In post #231 (looks like I can't link to it) you stated you used regular printing paper as connecting strips. Did you use the connecting strips to join the sections together, meaning you glued the strips onto each section before joining the sections together? If so, did you do this before or after preforming the skin?

2. In the picture included with that post I also noticed you had joiner strips on the formers as well. Did you do this for each former the skin blanket came into contact with? Was there enough tolerance in the model to accommodate the extra thickness of two layers of printer paper (strips on the skin blanket and strips on the formers)?

Everything else in the instructions looked pretty straight forward. Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to the forum Rambler.
You'll be able to provide links in your posts after 10 posts...just a spam prevention feature on the forum.

However, you can quote a post if needed like below. And if anyone needed to go to post because pictures aren't quoted like this example, they can click the right arrow blue box next to the quoted poster's name.

And here is the link as well.

Thanks for the welcome 3Turner! That would explain the link thing. As a long time lurker I knew there were link restrictions, but I didn't realize it also applied to linking within the site.

Hello Rambler,
When I did the skin, I pre-formed the parts on the formers, but the fitting is so good, that when you join two skin parts , they will pop themselves into the right shape, just do a lot of dry-fitting before you glue them on
In some places I put the joiner strips on the formers, so I would have just a tiny bit of tolerance in fitting the skin parts.
As i remember there is enough space, and you can correct it on the rim of the wing
