What is the make of this model? I may have to try and add to my build list.

Very nice work, Getter1!

Quite an impressive job building those gnat sized planes...your re-color looks fantastic.

I look forward to seeing more on your build of this unique subject...superb build thus far!

I really like the look of your build to, Scott...the appearance after applying the silver paint is quite nice. I'd love to see you finish it!

Cheers!
Jim

Thanks for all the great comments :D

Paperwarrior, actually the hardest thing on the Sparrowhawks was forming the body. Most all the other parts are just fold over pieces making the hardest thing on them cutting them out :P

As for a release of the sheets of F9C-2s I figure the same thing :P I'm not even sure who made this kit originally int he 1st place. The kit has no label as to who made it and the online store I bought it from was going out of business at the time. I don't even remember where I got it from as this purchase was the only one I was ever able to make from them before the closed up shop :(

Scott K, that's a nice lookin build there :D Please do finish it up and show us :D

Well as promised here are some build up pix.

I've not had a lot of experience with models with bulkheads so there was a bit of alearning curve for me here. I started out by cutting out all the hull parts, connecting strips, and bulkheads. I then cut out all windows and backed them with strips of card colored black to give a bit of depth. After painting I will fill the windows with clear parts cement simulating windows :D

I remember back a few years ago there was a hollow cast resin kit of both in 1/350th and there was a P/E detail set for them including the fighters, docking tower, props and other details..Looking really good G1, your progress is making me consider scanning mine and working on it.

Here's a better shot of the window backing.

The biggest problem I encountered was the touchy nature of the hull sections. I had to trim a few sections to make em fit. I was assembling them at 1st and a few wern't going together right. After a few of those I started to tape em and test fit before gluing. I've been too spoiled with modern kits I guess. After several other failures I was no longer taking for granted that they shoudl be the right shape being a commercial kit and all. I found 5 aprts that were off by a considerable margin and had to measure and compensate on each of them :P

I also had a problem with some of the simulated ribs not quite matching up. I had had it with all the measuring and re-printing and stuff so I aligned them the best I could and decided to press on :P

Scott K did you have any alignment issues with the ribs? Or fit issues with the hull sections?

Hey Hawkman, go for it :D We can thank (or blame) Deckape for posting his Sparrowhawk and Gulfhawk models in the the other things section It spurred me to pull this out fromt he in prog. box :P

This model got me to gain some experience with my circle cutter. It really got a workout considering I had to re-cut most all of the bulkheads to :P I had some limited experience with bulkheads before and most of the time they had to be shaved down a tad to fit so I cut them slightly small. Big mistake! Most of em were too small that way :( Thankfully the office lady where I work has been loading me up with cardbord boxes :D The ones I re-cut along the line needed a slight grid down on the edge from an emery board but easer to take some off than to add some back :P

This baby has really expanded my experience :P I want to build mre models of this type of construction before tackeling other printed kits I have.

Here we have the build up of the tiny Sparrowhawk.

Here's some of the Hull assembly. That's it up to the pix I posted last night.

I now have the hangar section on back assembled. The hangar now needs to be detailed before I can go any further with the hull. The precious few pics and a diagram I found offer a few clues as to what I need to do this but it's not much to go by.

What you will be able to see from the opening is not all that much so I may be able to go ahead with what I got. I just hate to rush a project though. I really want some good ref. on the internal hangar. There is a book I found that may shed some light on it but I can't get it till the end of the month. Oh the deilema :(
