Steel Wooled...,
The above result after #0000 steel wool polishing. Unfortunately the Hobby Model original pattern is not accurate. A second version will be prepared including the necessary changes. The current piece will be used to practice riveting and panel lines...,

Segue to Printing on Aluminum
Photographs of Epson 1100 Workforce print on coated aluminum clad cardstock. Rapid print setting. The clad piece was leftover from previous experiments and has suffered a good deal of hangar rash...,

Aluminum Print Test - Formed Piece
The nose piece below, from Hobby Models MiG-15F kit, was formed from the aluminum clad cardstock shown in a previous post.
The coated piece was inkjet printed using an Epson Workforce 1100 printer then sprayed with a clear acrylic plastic spray. Nice thumbprint gratis the "macro-vision shows all"..., -Gil 2871 |

One Tiny Leap And Still Miles to Go...,
Quote:
Yeah, it buffed out. The fact is that I was expecting it "not" to work. Now that it has means I've got to follow through on annotating corrections on the Hobby Model design. It's not that difficult to do but consumes time. The other part is to formalize proportions used in the coating. I've been using TLAR - it's worked thus far - now I've got to believe what it is that I did..., Also print was full black rapid print. I think a slower use of gray scales would help suspend disbelief of riveting and panel details. See, one tiny leap and still miles to go..., Best regards, +Gil 2966 |

Well with your eye, and how great it looks, I have no doubt of the out come.
Is the clad thick enough to allow directional buffing to create the individual panels effect? |

Interval...,
I am in the midst of preparing inkjet coating compound and had to wait for chemicals to arrive. Preparation started last night - the first production batch will be completed this evening.
In the interim I've been redrawing the Hobby Model MiG-15. I now believe that the model was designed without aid of a 3D CAD app. There's just too many geometric inconsistencies. The original idea was to take an existing model and convert it to an aluminum clad model - it would have been more expedient to start from scratch. So much for wishful thinking..., Below is a screen grab of the redrawn midsection in progress..., +Gil 3189 |

Thanks Gil, I kinda thought that with this process you are doing that you would be able to effect panels by overprinting a light grey color.
This would really open up the Century Series of jets.......... I would love to see an early F-100 or F-101 done in this effect. Kinda reminds me of the Chrome effect that Hawk models did in the early 60's to their P-51 and P-47 kits. And with that I think a P-51 or P-47 would look really cool! john |
