Spitfire Cutaway Cockpit
This is a spitfire cutaway cockpit that I was experimenting with over at another site. Thought I would share it here. Model is Kartonowy Arsenal Supermarine Spitfire Vb 1:33 scaled to 1:16

Cutaway Transparent Skins
Well more madness, I decided that all that work would be lost behind skins of aircraft. So I decided to fool around with a transparent skin. I did this in photoshop and printed in reverse and backwards on the Transparency film. The photos are not cystal clear as the camera was having a hard time focusing on the clear film.
Have not assembled yet just pinned in place, but do not forsee any problems yet. I am sure I will regret saying that. |

That is a very good initiative, both the upscaling and the cut-away and see-through sections. Just what many paper models with highly detailed interiors, the Halinski Spitfire first among them, deserve! - Leif

Thanks very much for sharing this. You have certainly set the bar a few notches up with this one. I just love to see highly detailed cockpits and regardless of whether some of it is lost (or not, in your case), we know that it is there!
When you scaled it up, did you have to print out on A3? and what scanner/printer did you use? Happy modelling, Bernie |

Leif: Thanks for the commets. You are why I started the 1:16 builds, I follow all your threads and saw your commets about scaling to 1:16
Cardist: I used an epson scanner and printed on super b with a HP 1220 C deskjet. Super b is 13" x 19" but I use a paper that is 12 x 18 and about 67# |

Skins attached
Well here are the skins attached, I spray mounted them to the paper side, and super glued them to the frame side. I used a gel formula that gave me an open time of about 20 seconds , that was long enough to align the frames at the front and the back. I let everhthing else just float. Then at the bottom I let the transparency film overlap about 1/4". And at that overlap I applied a small strip of double faced tape. Then I cut through with razor knife to dispose of excess. Not too hard. But loose glue ruins everthing.

Excellent build, excellent work with the transparencies. IIRC Hasegawa did a plastic model of an F-16 cockpit in similar vein.
Very nice model |
