If there is No metallic content in the paper, It should be able to stand several minutes in a Microwave even at Full power!! Dampness in the paper will cause heating though.

Anything that helps is not a stupid idea.

I am not into Planes too much, and more PAssenger planes than Military, but the B52 is a Favorite of mine too. I have one or two of the smaller Revell kits and one of the Monogram 1/72 scale kit (And I though that one was Big! only 30 inch fuselage x 36 inch wingspan!). I built that one as SAC in Aluminum & silver, but want to rebuild it using Bare-Metal Foil And NO I don't have a place to put it when restored!!

How long before they say simply Living is all the cause of ill health??

Interesting project--I've been a little intimidated by looking at my copy, especially since I have limited fine-motor skill. But... am I the only one who's had ideas about trying to redesign the GPM beast into an R/C model, perhaps even enlarging it to 1/12 or 1/24-scale?

Peter, wishing you a swift recovery--the BUFF is "my baby" too, and I had the privilege of spending some time in 55-094's pilot's seat at Wichita during the BUFF 50th Birthday party with a couple old crewdogs giving me a crash-course in "Ground School how to fly the D-model".

I had a friend who had a problem with mites. He got this stuff from a Veterinarian that is used for Birds, who also can suffer from mites. He went to a host of different doctors, the Bird Mite Power cured the problem within a couple of days. Maybe, if you got some powder, Put in with the plane parts, make sure the bag is sealed well, it will kill them. Mites have a very short life cycle. It doesn't take long to wipe out the little bastards. Freezing the model (put it in a plastic bag first) has also yielded good results when dealing with mites (not fungus, could actually bring some back to life). The main thing is determinig where they are cfoming from. The mites feed on the growth that occures from the moisture in the affected book (object) not the paper itself. If all else fails, I would "Bug Bomb" the house. I have seen this done to house in Connecticut worth millions or dollars with extensive libraries and other art work that needed to be prote4cted. Might be worth investigating the case, thus removing the symptoms.

Hey... thank you all for the tips and advice, all very welcome. Although the problem seems to be mainly in old paper and card, i still got a flare from handling the new stuff too, BUT, not soooo bad. The gel {a steroid type} helps get the problem under control {eventually} i have had sooooo many suggestions from the specialist{s} it's mind boggling for sure. At one stage, the skin on my hands was so un-even and leather like, they were talking laser treatment to get all the levels down to one - fortunately this wasn't required, the gel helped get things right. Thanks again guys. Meanwhile..... See what happens next on the BUFF !

I was just sitting in my bathtub and thinking, if Peter still has problems, there's a way to solve this; I'm half way through the scanning and printing, but what if we sent Peter the whole thing pre-cut? I need a couple of volonteers.. the whole kit is about 30 pages A3 so with a couple of guys, it's an easypiezie
Here's the plan; I send everybody who wants to join a couple of pages, You'll have to cut them, and sent Peter the pre-cut parts, so he only has to touch the parts glueing them together. PM me your adress if you want to join, I'll sent the parts, Oh and Peter, if you see this, PM your adress to me
I'll take a week to gather volonteers, and when depending on how much there are I distribute the pages. Whata you think?

The problems I can see are the accuracy of the different cutters, not a problem for a lot of the modellers on here but I know mine leaves a lot to be desired.Keeping track of the parts, what goes where and keeping them from getting lost or damaged in the post. That said I'm sure there's a way to do it. A few of the ideas I thought of are,for the cutting Pete might be able to wear gloves and a mask so that he just has to touch the paper directly for the fitting also there are a few sign makers here that print and precut decals I can ask if they could print and cut it although that might prove a no go it doesn't hurt to ask. Another option is flower arranging,it's artistic and will brighten up the house Pete,no mites just the odd Caterpillar,no?,just a thought I'll look into the decal cutting place then.

Hey guys.... I have pm'd Billy - Thanks for all your support and input, means a great deal. I will be able to cut the parts myself {using gloves if possible} but certainly wont be able to wear them when putting this together. I have completed the undercarriage that i told you about a few posts ago, so i am happy to have been able to do that. I now wait to hear from our Billy. Thank you all once again for all the ideas - you are stars.. each and everyone of you.

Peter:

Maybe too late and/or redundant.
Are you seeing both an allergist and a dermatologist? They offer complimentary services.
Microwaving paper and insecticides might kill the mites but the proteins, probably in the form of mite excreta, would still be on the paper.
You might run these by your doctors:
Can you consult an exterminator and create a mite free environment, which would mean killing mites, then meticulous clean up and possible repainting, new carpet, ect. to eliminate exposure to dead mites, keeping future batches of paper sealed, or in freezer until ready for use.
There are companies that consult on indoor environment rehabilitation that might be able to help you.
If it is mites, and nothing else in the paper, can you work with brand new paper that has just been printed on, or is there a problem with exposure to paper ingredients and inks: if the later does switching brand of paper and brand or type of printer help.
Can somebody else (not you) vacuum paper you are about to use with HEPA vacuum cleaner in attempt to remove mite allergens?
If you have no issues with hydrocarbon solvents, lacquers, alcohols, varnishes, acylics or waxes, can someone seal the paper with spray finish, and let it dry completely, before you use it. This would reduce you exposure to raw paper surfaces.

Have you considered moving to Yuma, Arizona? It has a warm, dry climate not good for mites, As long as you keep air-conditioner turned off.

Best wishes, good luck

Hey... thanks for your suggestions and all much appreciated. Mainly old paper/card stock gives the problems, but even new stock gives me a problem, but nowhere near that of the older stock. I'd consider moving to anywhere warm my friend - if only to get away from the cold here I will continue onwards and forwards of this you can be sure - Nothing gets between me and my Buff
