FN Richelieu 1/200th

Hi

French battleship cica 1943 after a refit in New York.

I am not good at mapping so all gun positions etc are positioned using the analogue sub in Metasequoia. the triangles are getting a little complicated.

Re: FN Richelieu 1/200th

Beautiful work, as usual, bazzer!

I might have to bug you on some basic guidance in creating the hull shape for a container ship using Metaseq; I have the plans showing a profile view, top view and front view. I also have the draught lines for the hull shape, but it's in a different plan set and I haven't reduced it to the same scale as the three view plan. It's a fairly simple hull shape, actually, with a continous weather deck, and the house is basic cube shape, but some differences at each level for the gangways on the aft side of the house, and one or two outcroppings for the life boats and navigation bridge wings. As you know, I am really a green novice in using these programs to design the hull, which is the most complex shape involved, but once I get that done I don't think it would be all that difficult to add the house and other deck details, though for the amount of detail I want to add putting in the various textures will be time consuming.

I am just starting to digest NOBI's great tutorial series, as well as another one I saw on the Cardmodels.net site, to get an idea on how to work these programs, but I tend to be impatient particularly since free time is so limited.

Sorry for the diversion from your thread, I am always impressed with the amazing design work from you and others and would love to learn to try it myself to perhaps tackle some merchant ships that aren't currently available.

Looking forward to more on your progress on this project!

Cheers!
Jim

Re: FN Richelieu 1/200th

Wotcher, bazzer!

Perhaps not the right place for a question, but if you want you can reply to my email.

I was able to upload the three view drawing of the ship into Metseq, but the grid scale is shorter than the plans...what do I do to extend it to encompass the entire plan?

I will then figure out how to place the points into the drawings to start creating the grid...maybe even play around with using the pre-set objects such as rectangles to set up the majority of the hull shape, and then carve it back to create the curves at the bow and stern...am I on the right track?

Cheers!
Jim

Wotcher Jim

To be honest turn off the grid and snap to grid it's more nuisance than it's worth

Re: FN Richelieu 1/200th

This is the best I could come up with for weathered teak. It still lacks the steel edging strips.

I find the rubber in Photoshop set to 15% opacity helps to hide the joins and fades the paint.
