The usual slow progress and to my eyes a bit rough some things would have been better ripped off and started again. I think finding some water "crayons" kept me going. The rigging will be wire the masts are just too fragile to accept any pull on the lines. The pylons on the turrets are very simple affairs a v shape and a straight bit held together with pva glue looks acceptable. The aircraft look much better actually in place. I used some steel wire to simulate the tracks on the torpedo house deck. The stays on the davits are from fuse wire.

Hi Barry,

Your AGANO is coming along very nicely, congratulations !
Maybe I have an idea for you how to make the rigging, without having to pull the lines, so that masts will not bend ! Anyway that's the way I did it on my models of TAKAO, FUSO and NAGATO.
I took some glue between my fingers, in my case ModPodge (mat not glossy), and pulled the wire, very fine fishing thread (brand Gudebrod) a few meters at a time, right through my, back and forward, moving fingers, doing that several times, the glue will spread evenly over the wire. Then I took two clothes pegs, one on each side of the thread and hang the wire to dry (the wire will also totally unwired in this process). After some time the glue is dry and the wire stiff enough to fit between two points, giving the wire a natural slack as on the real ships. (see my models), just try it, for me it worked fine!

John.

Wotcher, bazzer!

Rest up, mate, and get rid of that damn bug!

I love the way is one is coming out, that last photo from astern is my favorite thus far, but the close up shot of the planes is a very close second!

Feel better soon!

Cheers!
Jim

Hello Barry,
Your Agano looks terrific.
That is an interesting tip from John for rigging.

Wotcher, bazzer!

Hope you're feeling better, mate!

I love John's tip on rigging as well, it's similar to what I have done with lengths of fly tying silk using PVA glue. Some of the fly tying silk is somewhat water resistant so I find I have to run the line through my finger tips a few times to ensure it permeates into the fibers sufficiently to not bead up, but the end result, once the glue dries up matte but slightly flexible, is nice to work with. It also reduces any potential fuzz on the line if you try using cotton thread, which can be real fuzzy and a dust catcher on models when used for rigging untreated.

You just cut to the desired length and, being some-what pre-glued, it is fairly easy to attach to the model with just the slightest bead of glue at the attachment points. You can probably even use CA glue to attach if you need to have a quicker bond.

The proof of John's technique is shown by the exquisite models he has created, as seen in the photos posted on his build threads...spectacular work!

Hope you feel better real soon, my friend!

Cheers!
Jim
