Flight Archive
For those who like winged things......
There is an archive of all issues of Flight magazine from 1909-2005 at http://www.flightglobal.com. The archive is searchable and the indexing seems to be very good. Regards, Charlie |

How about a quiz?
This is a wonderful resource. Just browsing through what would be a high-point year in the early/middle of aviation history, I found this pretty aircraft. Although the make is quite familiar, I never heard of this particular model.
And further research revealed that it was indeed never developed beyond this prototype. Despite this, however, the aircraft set a world record for carrying a load of 1,000 kg over 100 km at 160 mph in the year following the publication in Flight. You will be able to have a good guess of the make, not least with that familiar paint scheme. But the model, anyone? Leif Last edited by Leif Ohlsson; 12-28-2008 at 12:39 PM. |

Looks rather like some version of a DH Gypsy Moth (distinctive DH tail), but that's as far as I can get.
It certainly is a pretty airplane. Don |

It's a 1926 DH.65 Hound - not adopted by the RAF because of it's wooden structure (the Hawker Hart was adopted instead). It's lucky the same decision makers weren't around when the Mosquito was proposed in the late 30s.
It's bigger than a Moth but is unmistakably a De Havilland. DH even made the Napier Lion engine (W-12 configuration) installation look neat and tidy. Regards, Charlie |
