If in London visit the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. There are model ships of Admiralty Models from the 1600's that will make your mouth hang open!
Same with the Maritime Museum in Rotterdam. Lots of models that leave you astonished at how they made them with much less technology back then.

Hi;

Here's one. This little tome was first printed in 1946, and reprinted in 1947. It is 1/4 x 5 x 8 inches in dimension, and contains 152 pages with hand drawn illustrations. The covers are stiff cardboard. Content is dated, but covers a broad spectrum of model types.
