Paper modelling book is reprint of an 1859 work
Books in the mail yesterday
Paper modelling book is reprint of an 1859 work. Batman book is from last year, 400-some pages. No illustrations of said hardware - I am going to suspect on account of licensing costs. Would love to be physically able to build more paper, card, models. Paper modelling book is probably 120 pages or so. It seems written from point of view that readers know of paper modeling but have not done it or have tried just once or twice. Covers acquiring paper and tools, even a plane-able cutting board. Making your own glue. Laminiating paper. Moulding paper in to 3D shapes. Mentions a place or two in London at which to acquire things. And ... covers landscaping around the building, even moulding rocks from paper.

Nice find! Especially, the reprint. I love old books that explain the pioneer side of hobbies.

The paper modelling looks like a great find.
There is probably a lot to learn from there - many of the old craftsmen were hyper skilled without need fancy modern tools. If in London visit the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. There are model ships of Admiralty Models from the 1600's that will make your mouth hang open!

Maybe we should start a thread with all of the books (not kits) that cover paper modelling?

The paper modeling book is available on google books as a free download. Its presentation has survived the passage of time pretty well from what I can see from its introduction. Great find! I look forward to reading it!

What a great idea!!! I love to collect antiquarian books especially about hobbies that interest me like scale modelling. I have a couple of old books about modelling aircraft and ships but those are just a few old books from around the sixties and not over hundred years old.
Cheers, Aadil.
