1953 Buick

Hi guys,

I took a few pictures of 1953 Buick prototypes I have built last year. The scale is 1/43 so I am trying to simplify as much as possible without giving up too much on realism. The result is a car that may be off in some areas, but instantly recognizable. I can cut, shape and assemble these models in 4-5 hours (a single afternoon... single in every meaning ha ha). Note that these are prototypes, so many little flaws are showing.

Excellent! They look buildable and definitely capture the look of the automobiles very realistically.

Excellent! As with your Cadillacs, you did a fine job modeling those rounded body shapes! You really captured the essence of these cars, they are indeed instantly recognizable. I also like your graphics, you handled the reflective surfaces quite well. Hope to see a lot more like these!

Beautiful and designs and builds. You've very effectively answered my query to your intro post about whether you build as well as design. You do both - well.

Great job. My father had a used blue '53 Le Sabre with the straight 8-cylinder and a single speed automatic transmission. It was one of his favorite cars. I was very young and I believe my father still has a picture of it with me on the hood.

Thanks guys!

I appreciate your comments. Reflects are due to the gloss of the photo paper. It is from Kodak... 180gr I believe.

The 1953 Buick series from bottom to top were the Special (sharing its body with the Oldsmobile Super 88), Super and Roadmaster (sharing bodies with Cadillac). The Skylark (red model shown) was a an exclusive model based on the Roadmaster series and if I am correct about 1600 were built that year. 1953 was the last year of the straight 8 that was replaced by a 522 C.I. V8 in '54.

The Le Sabre name first was given to a 1951 GM experimental show car (The dream car of dream cars!) and appeared on Buick cars from 1959 to 2004. I owned a 1960 LeSabre 2dr hardtop a few years ago... I fell in love with that make!

Just a few facts about a great car... and Buick turned 50 in 1953!
