Grandpa's Futurliner

Yale mentionned the Futurliner about 2 months ago and it reminded me of Grandpa's gift in 2011. I tought that I could use the chassis design of my current GM PDA-3703 project and adapt it to the Futurliner. Back in 2011 it was done in a rush and lacked a decent chassis with rolling 3D wheels. I also had to create joiner strips to fix some adjustment issues caused by the overlap building technique. Now it is time to build it again and see how everything fit. Yes John M, the Paperliner is already there!

Looked up the Futurliner on Google and Google images. Those were the days...
Please go ahead and make a nice small model out of this, just to show the lines. No great detail needed at all.

Go girl ...That's lookin' better than the die-cast one I've just bought Cami. What scale is it in? Will it have opening sides?

When it comes to the undercarriage, don't forget that they had a twin wheel arrangement front and rear. If it needed all those tyres to carry it's load, it would have looked good with an eight-legger layout, but I guess that was a much later concept.

Probably not Michael, sorry.

The scale is 1/43, no opening sides, but yes all eight wheels will be there John.

There were no major issues in the body build today. Joiner strips helped to fix most of the fit problems encountered on the first prototype 4 years ago. Still, a few pretty minor adjustments have to be done, especially around the cab corners and in the back doors area.

It's a good-looking truck Cami. Looking forward to the finish.

Thanks Elliott,

The chassis assembly went well, although it fits a little too tight in the body. I will have to give it some extra clearance. Overall, I am pretty happy about this second build. Next to '55 Chevy it looks huge, but both models are 1/43.

They were pretty big Cami. OK maybe not the Chevy but one of them carried a Pontiac Special in it's Belly.

You might get a Chevy (or two) on this one though.
