This week , I was at a reconstitution of a medieval assault against the castle of Les Baux in Provence (France).

Great photos and an interesting event to of attended.Sadly despite being surrounded by castles and forts there are very few events like this here the focus being more on Dickens than the huge stone castle shaped thing that dominates the Rochester skyline.

Yes, Dickens is easier to negoitiate the required permits from the Health and Safety Executive, what with the British Compensation Culture killing all fun activities, Outward Bound Centres closing down, no rock climbing without fifteen guy lines etc... A sad loss to the country. Not that Dickens is that bad, it could be worse - Thomas Hardy for instance.
That being said, we have a couple of working onagers at Caerphilly Castle, and they get fired every year. Blinkin' Impressive.
