Agree with all what you say. There are few modern cars i like the look of - i really am stuck with my IDEA of what a car should look like, and their isn't any that really do it for me. I guess i am old fashioned - but when i look at a car on the sellers forecourt, i have to imagine how i would feel about sitting in it and driving around. A car is a fairly large outlaying of cash, and i would never buy a car that simply had the lowest price tag on it's windscreen. A favourite for sure in the Rover P-5, but... like aircraft; i have several favourites You mention COLOUR... sooooo right, some cars look the business if given the right colour, ie if the P-5 was done out in RED, she would look awful, but metallic Green {darkish} or metallic Brown she looks WAY GORGEOUS IMO. I owned a Proton once {don't laugh - they're almost indestructible} she was in RED, and because of her shape {see attachments} this colour was just right - i saw her in several luxury colours that just didn't suit. Hey... you start a thread asking for a model Escort and it's turned into a car speak.... SORRY hope you get one sorted - or put it in the DESIGN REQUESTS here on PM DOT COM. Happy hunting - and driving. Regards. Pete.

Hey Peter, my sister had a Rover p6 a few years ago, see pic.
For me the only modern car that turns my head is an Aston Martin DB9, but I haven't got that kind of money, so my Peugeot will have to do. |

She's nice too my friend - a classic for sure. Agree with the DB9 she does stand out, and not a bad shape. I drive a Mondeo Mk II - there's so many of these on the roads, it get's boring - Mines a Dark Metalic Green, there's sqillions of them . One good thing though, they're very easy to get parts for - and the Breakers Yard have plenty in stock {a wee bit worrying } Great to hear from you Paul Have a great new Year

Thanks for the tour of your cars Peter, may not have found that Escort, but it was a nice sidetrack.
I have seen that Rover in BRG & a kinda battleship gray. Both worked, Dark rich color is best for the shape, not sure how it would look in Ford Yellow! Typically the cars I prefer have silly price-tags. I will say that once you are used to a 'luxury' car it is darned painful to drive anything else. This is what a buddy of mine used to drive, (his was white like in the pic) he had it race built & it did only 2-3mpg. He said when gas was $0.10c a gallon who cares. & it was real fast Nowadays I can only thank big-oil for the price-hikes. As you rightly say about ideas of how a car should be, I'm guessing you wouldn't mind this (Colored to accompany your car above) As a V16 it ticks all my boxes Happy New Year. |

Will need to check that one out, basically a copy of a mid50s Packard.

Whulsey, you're exactly right. After the merger with Studebaker in the mid-50's, the tooling for the '55-56 Packard models was sold to the Russians which built them as Chaikas. The design was unchanged until the '70's, when an updated body was designed, but the mid-'50's Packard chassis and drivetrain was retained.

Sounds like a few mods could generate a nice Packard as well then.
Will have to identify the differences & find the author as there could be a whole other model just a makeover away |
