Designer of the year Award

I would like to propose a designer of the year award for the
designers on this Forum. We have many great one's here that
deserve this tribute. It could coincide with the model of the year
or P.O.T.Y Just testing the waters and would appreciate any
comments the Forum members have on this idea....Ron

i think it would be good idea as long as it wasnt confused with repainters. i dont think it would be fair say to choose a prolific repainter with dozens of releases, over an actual designer who may only have 2 or 3 designs for the year.

Trent,
I agree it should be an actual designer. That was my original intent
and didn't adequately explain my thoughts...Ron

Hi Ron,

I think you're on to something with this idea!

Also agree with Nothing, repaints should have a seperate category.

Sounds like a great way to Honor those who keep our hardrives full.

For the pay and download models I nominate Kenlwest for his B58, XB-70, SR71 and experimenting with his astronaut. Taking the whole designing thing a few steps past the normal!

For the freebie downloads, Yogi would get my nomination for his many freebies. They just keep showing up!

Best regards,
Mike Bauer

It seems reasonable to me Ron.
We go to great lengths to recognize the efforts of builders, why not the designers that make it all possible.

yes, i think that would be good. it would be nice to win, but we like other designs too. i think it should be pure design and not categorized by genre, scale or subject. one winner only.

Thanks for the input guys. This proposal is primarily to get
an acceptance to have a designer of the year award. The
nominations for designer of the year would come near the
end of the year when appropriate. We have many gifted
designers as you have indicated. The various categories
could also be discussed to give the designers their just
rewards in their specialties and not have one popular
category to diminish their contribution. Just my thoughts.

Ron

category would be a good idea as aircraft are the predominant interest it would possibly edge out designers of other areas.

That would be very interesting.

I see that paid vs free has already mentioned.
I was going to suggest something like that too.

I guess that before starting to throw names,
it would be necessary to adjust the details of the process, right?

Will there be a list of designers to choose from?
Designers that have released something in the last 12 months?
Or designers that have developed more than an X number of models?
Or can any person enter with only one completed design?

I am in favour of making a clear division between designers for paid/free models,
or between pro/amateur designers if you prefer.

I think I don't like the idea of designers by genre.
There's a lot of designers for airplanes, cars and even weapons.
but very few for.. say.. trains, tanks, ships.
