U-Tube question
Not being very familiar with U-Tube and its ways I have what is probably a very basic question.
Say I find a video I'd like to have a copy of for my own personal use. Never to be seen in another posting by me. Is there a way for me to download a copy to my computer? I've looked and can't seem to find any way to do this. Do I need to become a "Member" of something or the other? Is it even legal? I just don't know enough to even begin to figure it out. Any suggestions, help would be appreciated. Swampfox |

I use Download helper...its a plug-in (add-on)
Its available for Mozilla Firefox. Allows you to download all kinds of page elements, especially video and flash files. Also allows you to convert them during the download to standard AVI files that don't require a Flash player. As long as you are downloading for personal use, its no different than viewing the files online (your PC still "downloads" the data for you to be able to view it!) But if you start using the files, reposting them, altering them, etc...then its a no-no. Youtube files posted here are actually only links to Youtube, so that's legit.

USE" Video Download Helper", Google it and it will add right onto Firefox. It's great easy. Real Player comes and gives access to much Malware and Spyware.

If "Download Helper" doesn't work for you, or if you use a browser other than Firefox, or you don't want to install plug-ins etc. etc. then you can do the following:
After that you'll need a software to open and enjoy your video. I prefer Videolan VLC player, which is an incredible media player that allows to watch any kind of video, including (but not limited to) FLVs and MP4s downloaded from youtube. It also allows to play several other video formats. It is lightweight, has never crashed in my hands. And best of all, is free: VideoLAN - VLC: Free streaming and multimedia solutions for all OS! Interesting option as many sites like the BBC are blocking video downloading. These videos are quite easy to find elsewhere, so I don't know why they do that but nice link Ruben.

Now that you guys helped Swampfox, I am wondering if you would be so good as to give me some advice. I am trying to upload to Utube, and I can't sign in. It tells me I am a
member of both Google and Utube but won't let me sign in. It keeps telling me I have to sign out of google first. Google seems to have me permanently signed in and won't let me sign out. I feel like doing!!&%*"?? to both. Please help. I don't want to lose the 2 hairs I got left. Thanks muchly. Dave |
