2012 spending survey

So I read that the average plastic modeler spends between $200 and $500 a year on actual plastic models but when you take into account, tools, paint, decals, and items like display cases or other materials, they usually spend about $1000 a year on their hobby.

I was just curious not-counting paper, ink, glue, what does the average paper modeler spend on paper models a year.

So if you could, think back to the previous year and answer this question

how much did you spend on purchasing paper models in 2012?

I probably spend no more than US$50-60 on actual paper models each year, plus maybe the same again on paper, card, glue, ink etc...I would probably spend ten times that on plastic models but then you can not (yet) download quality plastic models for free either...

One of the contributing factors of me changing to paper was how cheap it is. 2012, I think I spent about £40, the majority of this at ecardmodels.com.
Great thread

I should have voted >$200. I guesstimated at between $100 and $200, but going over my financial ledger and totaling up just the paper model purchases, both downloaded and pre-printed, I get a total of $490.39. The purchases are spread out over the entire year, with the purchases for the birdmobile models (smaller birds, merlin, osprey) at $162.35, then $109.71 for the Dungeon TerraClips sets from World Works Games, and the rest varying from $2.70 to $46.95. Suprises me that I spent that much, but as stated when spread over the entire year it doesn't have a big impact. A few purchases here and there over a 12 month period adds up.
Not sure how much of the total are shipping charges for the pre-printed models.
The vast majority of the funds came from winnings at some riverboat casinos.

After thinking about this topic for a minute or two the funny thing is that after spending all that money. I've propably ony had time to build about $10.00 worth. I guess I'll have plenty to do years from now when (or if) I retire. I look at these purchases as an investment in my future.
