The donation thing might help keep some models afloat for a while, but its not a viable solution to life's problems.
Keep looking for the suitable work.

I have had a dozen different jobs in the last ten years.
I have lost them all...not to any fault of mine.

I worked for one company, where the owner promised me the world. Promised me all kinds of rewards down the road.
I did the jobs he needed doing (building some Cars for him) and when they were done,
I found out he quietly made a deal with someelse in a partnership arrangement
and I was told I was not needed anymore.

Another company here in Town promised the entire staff bigger and better things if we could just fill one more big order.
We all worked overtime, and filled the order in two weeks (instead of one month).
then we were informed that the company was closing this operation and moving far away.

Another small business convinced me and 8 other guys to work extra work for free
to help get the company on its feet...we never did get paid and when the jobs were finished, we all got the boot.

My point is, this happens to everyone...everywhere...these days.
You are not alone.
Many people are suffering at the hands of employers and companies
that don't always look out for the little guy.
Feel strengthened by the fact that you CAN vent here and there is support
from people who get it...we understand.

all the best

Thanks, Dave. I know I do have lots of company, unfortunately.

The donation thing was mostly a joke, although I could really use some money for food at least, if not gas. I'm just glad to be able to contribute something here myself, for a change.

We just now found out what happened to my son's benefits. They've been suspended! He attended the mandatory meeting last week on the 28th, but he just now got a letter claiming he didn't! It also says he can't call the claim center, but has to repoprt in person! He can't do that, he has no way to get there (35 min away).

I had him send an email to the Workforce Development office, lets see if that helps. We'll also have to borrow a neighbor's phone again, to call the office directly (don't have our own phone, either).

And, would you believe, the waste hauling company just took our trash can away today, because I can't pay them, either. Too funny...

I feel like (Insert long, loud, tremendous scream here)!!

How do you protect yourself from a mis-spelled name in an internet story?? My wife just told me to look myself up on google. I did so. The first entry is of my name, but with a G instead of C, as my middle initial. The stroy is a police report about a child molester!! This person lives fairly close to me, but is 18 years younger. We know of another family with a similar name in that town. Theirs is Kill_ing_beck, mine is Kill_en_beck. If you enter the correct version of the name in google, the same story comes up, but with the right name.

I can only wonder if someone googled me, saw the incorrect story, and that's the explanation for my being let go at the end of my last contract job. I also wonder if it explains my continued lack of success in finding a new one.

Arrggghh^*%%^$*^%$%^*!!!!!!!!

Like I need any more heartburn.

I had that happen to me several years ago. I was applying for a job and was told that the background check was taking longer than usual. I asked why, and they said, "If you hadn't moved around so much in the last 20 years it would be easier." I have lived in the same house for more than 20 years, (Paid it off recently!!!!!YEAH!) and explained as much. It turns out that there is a person with my name, living in the same town, but who has a bad criminal record. He's the one who'd moved around a lot. He was born two days before me - the same year! Then I found another person in another part of Texas with my name and birth date - who also had a criminal record.

Ever since I have made a point of telling all prospective employers to be careful in searching my background and I have always explained why. Since then, I have been told by various HR people that this isn't uncommon. By reminding them to check carefully upfront, I'm sure I've gotten several positions.

Just be open - tell them what has happened - and they will quickly ensure that they do a proper job.

I had the same thing happen to me too. I didn't clarify the spelling of my middle name, and they came back with a report involving a lengthy rap sheet, including murder. Fortunately, it included a picture that didn't look like me, although all the other personal info matched. the only difference was he spelled his middle name with am H, and I don't. Also, if you don't already have one, set up a paypal account. the people here on this forum are some of the greatest in the world. They've pulled my bacon out of the fire nope times than I can count.

Aaron, I hope that wasn't recently, you have enough to deal with as it is...

I do have a Paypal account, but hate to ask for help that way. At least you've been providing us all with many freebies and affordable goodies, a few of which I intend to buy when my tax refund comes in.

We still have a roof over our heads, and I can pay at least some bills with my refund, hopefully enough to keep the wolves of my back for a bit longer.

Now I find I need to ask for some prayers for a family member as well. My Stepmother was admitted to the hospital a few days ago with severe abdominal pain. Seems she has "air pockets and a ruptured diverticula", according to my stepsister. Also "No water or food since Wed. as they want to be able to do emergency surgery if necessary. She is impacted and can't seem to be rid of it". No news today, so I'm hoping all is reasonably well. I have diverticulosis myself, so I have a fair idea what she's going through.

She lives about 3 hours away for me, otherwise I'd go see her at the hospital myself. Oh, well, maybe after the refund comes.

For all we are going through (hey, I've been unemployed for 6 months). I feel this is appropriate, and by far the best ad of Superbowl:

I agree. You're out, too? Sorry to hear that.

Too many of us out of work around here. Come on, second half!

Even More Heartburn

Well, so much for my car. It's been remotely disabled. I called the loan company last week to ask for an extra week until my taxes come in, but, no go. They claim it was turned off Saturday, and would be reposessed 2 days later(today). Um, no. I last drove it after 10:00 PM Saturday night. Maybe I have an extra day? If so, I can hopefully make the payment tomorrow, I just won't be able to buy food or gas until the refund comes. IRS says that's also due tomorrow. We'll see.

Today's going to be a very long day.
