Russian Space Shuttle Buran to be rebuilt!

Found this, thought others might find it interesting.

Shame that the only fully-built (and flown) Buran was allowed to have a decaying hangar collapse on it.

Spaceguy5, I did not know a hanger collapsed on it! It is so sad that this great space craft was treated like this. The former Soviet Union just did not have the money to take care of there history like they should have.....so sad.......Rich

You know what's terrible? It's still there... They didn't even clean up the mess. When the hangar collapsed, they went in to take pictures but just left it sitting there to decay more.

I never thought I would either. I'm glad this other shuttle is being taken care of.

If my memory is correct, they only built two, plus a cockpit section as a crew trainer.
The third Buran was cancelled, as I recall.

I'm equally saddened to see the flown Buran as a wreck, and , somehow, vaguely hopeful that the barged one might be rebuilt to at least decent static display condition.

It seems that going back a half step, and building an enlarged version of Spiral in modern materials might be the way to go for the Russians, as doing so would also provide a useful alternative C.E.V

Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell.
