Polish flight no 177 New York-Warsaw. Emergency landing...
with no landing gear extended.
Well trained and experienced crew. And balls of steel: 230 passengers on board, no casualities. One hour ago.

What a job! I've been in rougher looking landings with the wheels down.

It was text book landing. The airport had time to deal with it by spraying flame retarted powder on runway but the skill of the pilot and co pilot has got to be commended

One Cooooooooool Pilot indeed, this is a situation they practice in Flight Simulators time and time again, they just hope that they never have to do it for real - he did it spot on ! Go.....Pilot, you are THE man !

Passengers of that flight, when interviewed, told they were till the end convinced that crew did extend the landing gear , because the landing was so smooth. Another thing is how calm was radio conversation between the liner and ATC:
-report lane in visual range -lane in visual range -thank you, good luck -thank you. First pilot was cpt Tomasz Wrona. "Wrona" means in english "a crow". So, after few hours, new saying appeared in internet: "Fly like an eagle, land like a Crow" Another nice vid:

I saw this on the news this morning and my immediate thought was that it don't get better than that. A huge "attaboy" for that crew.

Just noticed didn't even tear the engines off, just let down slow so the pylons folded out.

Those pilots deserve an award for saving lives.
I saw the footage, and was more than Impressed. Like other members here, I'd guess, I've seen a few disasters and mishaps over the years, and seen a few tragedies result despite the crews' best efforts to save all aboard. This event could so easily have been a disaster, yet was calmly and professionally managed with consumate skill that saved all aboard. May the Deity Bless these pilots all their lifetimes. My Respects to them, and their crew, and the airport Emergency Crews and ATC staff. Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell. |
