Interesting article about the permanent disposal of F-111 aircraft in Australia.

As an old 'Vark crew chief, that's just wrong.

well, obviously you can' t keep 'em all.
I like the fact they say that 13(?) planes are being kept and going to various places. what else you gonna do with the extras? I guess its the only option. Its sad when you realize that nobody thought to keep a few... I support the Vulcan XH558 organization who are trying to keep the one and only Vulcan left flying and in good condition. Such an impressive plane to have allowed to disappear. (There is another maintained Vulcan, but I don't believe its airworthy)

Ouch. I got to talk to a Vark pilot a couple of months ago, and he said it was the best plane that he ever flew in his 28 year A.F. career.

I always hate to see aircraft ending up on the scrap heap. After "demilitarizing" (sp) I'm sure if they advertized them as "free to a good home" there would be enough rich enthusiasts around the world who would pay transportation costs for at least the cockpits. Heck they could sit 'em all in a field and put a sign outside saying "Pick-your-own".

Hey guys, think of the future archaeologists - what a treat for them. ;-)

If I recall, there were hundreds if not more aircraft burried after WW2. Many in the Pacific islands. I guess they will be archaeologist sites in the future.
