I was gong to post this, but it bummed me out so much. My son and I visited her when she came to Connecticut. Rest in Peace "Liberty Belle".

Yeah, that is too bad. There just aren't too many flyable examples anymore.

Yep, saw that on the news this morning. One less aircraft to admire.

What a bummer. I respect those who rebuild and fly these historic aircraft and I believe that it is necessary for our children to see these in the air and on the ground, but to lose one is heartbreaking.

Sad indeed. At least everyone survived. It looks like there was an engine fire in number two as that prop is feathered in some of the photos. Luckily the pilot was able to make a wheels down landing and get everyone out. I've been a huge B-17 fan since I was a small boy. I got to fly in "Fuddy Duddy" when she was still at Geneseo. This is really tragic.

The other one we were on was "Aluminum Overcast" flown by the E.A.A. I know some don't want to hear it, but these planes are so valuable, with their tie to History, one (me) wonders if they should not be put in some kind of museum, even a living one, where they start them up every now and then. They'll all be gone. The B-29 in The Bradley Air Museum is supposed to be restored to flying condition, but they would never let it fly. It wouldn't balance out. Just an opinion.

Damn, that's too bad. I took a ground tour of the Liberty Belle (the only B-17 I've ever seen up close) a couple years ago. Beautiful example of this historic ship. A bummer to be sure. :(
