Aw, man...that is truly sad. I've never had it myself, but I do know someone who did, and I know it is no fun at all (I did get giardiasis once, which is another outdoor hazard that is also no fun but easier to combat). I hope your recovery will be swift.
Regards,

That what my Doctor thought. She put me on Levaquin and it almost killed me. Good doctors are getting hard to find. I lost 26 lbs when I first got sick. I am sincerely praying that I don't get a reaction for the anti-biotics. I appreciate all the support, it means a lot, Thanks.

Sorry to hear of your illness Zathros. My daughter has been fighting so-called chronic Lyme disease (actually bartonella) for 10+ years now. I hope you will be one of the lucky ones who are able to defeat it. Levaquin is an interesting antibiotic choice. 100mg 2X daily of doxycyline for 3-4 weeks is the traditional treatment - although we've had experience with Levaquin too. Deer ticks often carry a number of co-infections that are potentially much harder to treat/cure than borrelia burgdefori (Lyme). Bartonella being one of the worst - with that one you just don't get better after antibiotic therapy, IV or oral - not for very long at least. If you were only tested for Lyme antibodies, I'd recommend you insist on getting a "full panel". This will check for all of the known co-infections - bartonella, babesia, erlichiosis, etc, etc. We found out much later that my daughter had a particulary nasty tick with Lyme and 4 co-infections. This website is full of good references Miscellaneous Links On Lyme Disease Hopefully you won't be needing them. Lymealliance and Lymenet will provide you with reliable information from Lyme literate doctors and actual sufferers, untainted by pressure from the medical insurance industry (insurance companies hate to pay for care for extended chronic illnesses and are known to really bring the hammer down on Drs who treat the disease too aggressively). It's hard to find one who will stand up to the pressure and fight the good fight for their patients. Best of luck to you, and I hope you are feeling better soon.

I pray you daughter gets better. I have been prescribed doxycycline for 21 days so fingers are crossed. The Levequin was because I had pneumonia. It is the nastiest drug I have ever taken. It destroyed the fauna in my intestine and I ended up with a yeast infection in my mouth. My Doctor said she did a ful panel check up and checked for other connective tissue diseses. The drew about 7 full vials of blood. Anyway my fingers are crossed!

I am surprised and a bit worried, that a GP is not able to recognize Lyme at the start. It has a distintive red multiple circular signature (like the British RAF roundel...) and everybody in my area is alerted to these signs when walking in the woods or on the dunes at the sea coast. Always loook out for these signs when getting the firste symptons! Get well soon!!

Doxy will also kill off beneficial bacteria, Zathros. To avoid a repeat of thrush or other digestive problems, it would be helpful to buy yourself a pro-biotic blend - something with acidofillus, bifidus, etc. Take 'em like candy. From experience, the refrigerated capsule type is most effective. "Mother Earth" and most health food stores carry the refrigerated variety. I don't think GNC does, though.Yogurt really isn't a good choice while on doxy (dairy and doxy don't mix very well). One more tip while on doxy - don't take it right before going to bed for the night. That stuff'll start burning a hole in your stomach after a few days.
