Lots of oilfield workers from here in Alaska have moved south to the Dakotas.

Biggest thing is finding a place to live/sleep from what I hear from friends downthere.

Good Luck!

Oil field work is also booming here in South Texas as well. A small town I went to for work has doubled in population in just under two years because of the oil field work. Just a thought.

Best of luck to you Aaron.

How does one get into the oil industry. I don't even know where to start. I'd love to find a studio apartment for around $300 or so. Hopefully with utilities included.

If you aren't trained or don't have the skills, you go in and sell yourself as a reliable hard working person that will show up every day. You know how to use computers, you know how to manipulate numbers, sell yourself, be willing to learn and take whatever job you can, because another job is that close by. You just need to get into a place where's there's work and someone will hire you.

Sometimes, all it takes.....

....is asking the question "need any help?" (let it play to the end):

Aaron, I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to get in....however, one of the companies I saw driving around was Chesapeake Energy (Careers | Chesapeake Energy - America's Champion of Natural Gas). I kid you not....this town I drove through a couple weeks ago had about 6 to 8 new RV parks for oil field workers and 2 housing developments (that I saw) for the oil field workers moving to work in the area. I am sure that if you get onto Monster.com or Careerbuilder.com (and similar) there would be other companies hiring you can find...for any job industry you are interested in working in...not just the oil field stuff.

My father has had a resume posted on Monster.com continually for the last 10 years even though he has a job...so far, that resume post has got him countless job calls from headhunters asking him to go in for an interview and has allowed him to get 4 different jobs in those 10 years each with increasing salary. And to top it all off...he does not search for jobs, he just posted his info/qualifications and they call him every single time.

Hope this helps a bit

What part of Texas do you live in?

What I need to find is a job, a place to live, and a friend, somebody I can relate so I don't feel all by myself.
