Road Trip Music

This summer, if all goes well, I will be making a couple of road trips through the American Southwest.

Anyone have favorite songs they would like to recommend?

Part of one trip (and maybe both) will be following old Route 66 from Albuquerque west...

Dear Sgoti
In a classical side you have to do Ferde Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite when going between New Mexico and Arazona. Years ago on rt. 66 in Albuquerque across from the State Fair grounds was a Fatahta Resesterant in an old gas station had the best Fatahtas I have ever had don't know if it is still there however.
Have fun,
MILES

What better music for a roadtrip than Roadhouse Blues? Smoke on the Water also comes to mind.

The Duke city has plenty of fine restaurants including one of my all time favorites, the Frontier located right on Central (Rt 66) across from UNM. They have cinnamon rolls as big as your head and plenty tasty too.

Be prepared for a lot of dead-ends and backtracking since until you get past Williams, AZ most of 66 is abandoned or local use only. The main exceptions are in the smaller towns were business I40 usually is the last version of 66 before the Interstate.
Anyway some of my favorites are: Electricity - Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, Tangled Up in Blue - Bob Dylan; 6 Days On The Road - Dave Dudley; Let It Roll - Little Feat; and of course, Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf (mandatory to play at least once).
