That's a cool find! I'd like to see how they're made; I'm sure once we find out how to make these shapes on our own, our skills will be expanded. Frankly, I've been combining drinking and paper modeling for years. (I'm not the only one, and you all know that )

From what i can see in Ricks image, it is a finer form of the stuff they make egg boxes off. It is like paper-mache and probably molded like plastic. Might be waxed inside to prevent seeping. I wouldn't buy it anyway, don't like wine.

If it's good wine, then it's fortunate to come in a great looking paper bottle. But if it's bad wine, well... you would still be fortunate enough to have a great looking paper bottle!

As with any other products, the cost and technology of packaging materials changes over time. Steel cans replaced glass bottles for beer, and the world did not end. Aluminum cans replaced the steel cans, and the world still didn't end. Nowadays, we have various plastic bottles for water and soda. Generic box wine has been available for many years, now, and this new paper package seems just a slight technical advance. 20 years ago, some purists were worried that the shortage of cork would force even the best vintners to switch to screw-top bottles. And today, many people are worried about a world-wide shortage of wine itself, regardless of the container type. My curiosity about this new packaging is the opening -- cork/screw-top? -- and its effect on price.

Most if the wine I drink has come in cardboard cartons for years. Nothin like picking up a box of wine on your way home after a rough day.

A friend of mine, a retired Air Force officer, recently completed the pilgrim hike to Santiago de Campostela. At one point he wrote to me: "479 of the 503 miles are behind me. Everything hurts, but a half bottle of red wine refurbishes the body at night."
