Thanks, Padre. I like the one listed for over $300. Now, that's optimism! I contacted the one who listed the $10 in Nov 2012! That's looking ahead.

few days ago i see a free download c-130 gunship. looking at the picture, the model looks like less quality then airdave's. however, what will that going to do for airdave's c-130? i think airdave already selling his model less then what they really worth or at least less then what airdave could have charge for, maybe an other 5~7 bucks or more, at least. printed kit will be even more. will airdave's sell more c-130 because of that free c-130 model? will he? and what if a pt boat show up some where for free too even if it is less quality then airdave? and what that going to do for airdave's pt boat or anything else airdave made? make people want to run over to airdave and buy his boat?

I do agreed, that are room foe free models. if wasn't for that, i would not have enjoying this hobby so much. so, i don't know. i think that most people after downloaded a free model are not going to drop 10~15~20 bucks for a model of the like. they will most likely say" i can get it for free! why should i have to pay?" i was told that more then once.

Allen...you know what?...I do understand your point
but, YES, I think the free models actually do help my sales.

The free Gunship you are talking about is from PaperReplika.
In the photos, it sure looks like a nice looking model.
Their kits always have nice colouring and texturing.
But its still smaller scale, and a much simpler model.
And its not a threat to my model, because its in a different category of build.

I'm not saying my model is that good...I think its good for what it costs.
The FLY model is much better than mine, but also a lot harder to build.

Someone who wants AC-130 models will collect them all, including buying mine.
Some modellers might try some of the simpler free models first
and that will make them more interested in trying a purchase model (like mine).
Or what about the fact that the PaperReplika kit is only one Gunship...whereas I have four different gunships.
So the PaperReplika kit gets them interested in Gunships, but then they come to me because I have the special gunship they want!
woohoo I'm getting rich! LOL

yes, you are correct...there will be a few people who will download the free model and then have no reason to buy my model.
But those people are primarily only interested in free models anyway.
So they probably wouldn't have bought my model anyway.
So, I didn't lose anything.

Or they can't really afford my model and I am glad they found a suitable (free) replacement.

Well said, Dave. That's what I've been thinking but couldn't express.

I also think there are those that pretty much only will build free models, whether by need or choice and we won't convert them.

mbed, you just answered your own questions.
"people are paying for free paper models and not knowing it's only free!"
and thats why someone steals a free model and sells it on ebay.

8 million people will see it on ebay.
But only 8 thousand people will find the free model site.
Thats means 7,992,000 people don't know the model is available for free.

For the same reason someone robs a bank, its a lot easier to steal the money
than try to make it legitimately by going to work everyday.

We should not be concerned with why someone does it, only how to deter them from doing it.
This was Davenport's original idea...a way to make the pirated ebay item look less appealing to potential buyers, by seriously undercutting their price.

I like Allen's attitude...he is basically saying that all model designers should be rewarded for their efforts.
And selling their models (instead of giving them away) is one way to be rewarded.

This is a wonderful idea and I thank him for considering my time and effort.

But sometime the reward is in sharing (and giving) the model away,
so you have to respect that as well.
And sometimes there are other motives...like the fact that I give away some models
just to get you to visit my site and look at all my wares.

i like your gunship a lot, airdave, not too easy and not too hard to build. i really do wish you make a killing with your models.
