Requaescat In Pace {Rest In Peace} Les Munro.
Remembered in Honour.

"They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them; We WILL Remember Them."
-Laurence Binyon.
In profoundly Respectful Remembrance.

Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell.

Thank you Les. You paticipated in one of the most daring bombing operations ever. For anyone interested, please read the book Dam Busters: The Race To Smash The Dams 1943, by James Holland. And always bear mind with every line you read that these guys were just 21, 22 years of age. Incredible.

Erik

His medals were sold to pay for the upkeep of the Bomber Command Memorial in London (something that should be done by the bloody government, it took 70 years to get the bloody thing and still no campaign medal just a clasp). Bought by a British Lord the medals have been donated to a museum in Auckland Blue Skies Les say hi to Frankie and the rest of the Bomber Boys.
Last Dambusters pilot Les Munro sells medals for £75,000 - BBC News

The same Lord Ashcroft who put up one of the rewards (six figures) when the VC collection was stolen from the National Army Museum in Waiouru in 2007. Just for info, the other reward was put up by a former US Marine now living in New Zealand...

yup i wasd aware it was lord ashcroft who made the purchase.i thought the money fronm the medal sle was to build a new memorial, didnt realise it was for upkeep costs and yes i agree that the upkeep should not rely on this brave man having to sell his medals
