Dear Ultra:
I was going to suggest you go to the US Consulate in Cario and ask to speak to the Marine Guard. But I think working with Pictures from Phrog Phlyer (Frog Flyer) will be much Better. Major I would suggest taking closeups of the sword next to a yardstick so ultra can piece them together at 1 to 1 scale. also stand the sword on edge so he can see thickness. Ultra good luck in finding some way to keep the blade stiff. looking forward to this project, MILES |

Miles-thanks for the photo tips, I have not posted any photos yet, so this is my beta test.
Just an FYI (to ramble a bit) -and this may not be the specific case always, but GENERALLY SPEAKING, there are no Marine Corps Officers assigned as embassy guards. probably some, which have to be located someplace, administrative/command staff for the region that oversees the embassy guard. So there may not be an officer with sword present. But, as I said, there probably are many variables. Semper Fi |

I think what you'll want will be close ups of the hilt... The blade lengths varied depending on the officer.

the Mameluke sword
Hello-here is my first attempt to attach and send photos, let me know if you can work with these. In the past, when naval officers actually carried swords and used them, one of the major complaints about the Mameluke sword was that it was too easy to bend the scabbard on ship, it got caugt in everything.
Well, I am excited to see if this works! I even used a good camera on the micro/closup setting. If not, let me know, I really need to master this so I can contribute to the site- |

The Mameluke Sword, Pt 2
Hum, I uploaded several more photos than appear in my previous message, so I will ad a few more. The measuring ruller is a yard stick, 3 foot long, or 36 inches in case you ned to convert.
Hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else- Semper Fi |
