I'm glad Discovery made the trip safely, but I mourn that there is no current replacement Shuttle in service, nor likely to be for a considerable time.
The Shuttle was itself an error of policy, but NASA was left with no choice but to accept it as being "the only game in town" even though that meant being locked into Earth Orbit and never truly exploring space for the lifetime of the Shuttle Fleet and beyond. Being locked into Earth Orbit was another error of criminal neglect, but that too is another complete discussion.
I'm glad the few remaining Shuttles are being preserved, and hope to one day see them in person, sad though that day will be, in many ways.
