Model Files
So I was backing up my files yesterday and was quite astonished to find I had just short of 3000 files in my model file. Am I being obcessive-compulsive? Someone please tell me that I'm not the only one that collects models faster that I can build them!

Dear Wayne:
I am reminded of a bumper sticker I saw years ago: SHE WHO DIES WITH THE MOST FABRIC WINS. Some fabric store gave them out. I do belive that free downloadable paper models can become addictive. Quick find some more you donot have enough, MILES |

I lost a considerable number of "found" internet models with my last harddrive crash.
Thats okay, since many of those were stuff I collected in my first 6 months model collecting... stuff i now don't want anyway. Current Paper Models folder: Estimate about 40% of that is my creations including my work files. So, I beat you on "file count" ...but I honestly could not tell you the exact model count. And I have no interest in counting them! lol 23Gb is considerably better this time around! My pre-July 2011 Model Folder was over 60Gb!

Beginner. You aren't in trouble until you start debating whether a 500 Gig dedicated drive is enough, or if you should plunge for a Terrabyte drive to house the models.

That isn't too bad. I have around 17.48GB of models on an external hard drive, both free and purchased, plus a bunch of printed model books purchased from various sources. I did not count the number of separate models, but the file number is in the 17,000 range according to the folder properties.

You're perfectly normal. Consider this; I have plastic modeler friends with as many and more unbuilt kits! Think of their storage nightmare!

I added together my FG collection, which certainly contains dups since I made copies of the last DVD set, and my Papermodels folder. The total was about 26 Gb, 6,300 folders and 45,000 files. So I'd say that you're just getting started. LOL!
Dave I think that your average file size is inflated by design work! Umm..., might be time to do some cleanup and organizing and certainly a backup. Curt |

Charles, I resemble that remark. My shop is my curse to my children.
