Up until recently i kept all my models. But last year i pretty much ran out of space, so now when a new one is built, another must make way and is sent to the recycle bin.

I have used up all my horizontal surfaces in my office (hobby room now that I am retired). I hang most of my airplanes from the ceiling three high total twenty in all. I have a six tier display case full. Now I give them to my grandson and people who have a special passion for things like trains. My grandson's room is filling up. They haven't told me to stop because they don't want to hurt my feelings. But they don't dare get rid of them fo fear I will come over and see them missing. (Heh heh). I have over 50 in my office. I suppose they will have a bon fire when I am gone. In fact I may just tell them that is what I want them to do when I die. Have a get togeter and burn all my moels one by one while they share interesting anticdotes about my crazy hobby.

I only have one on permanent display in my home (the Titanic). And one on display in my office at work (Shuttle Challenger with transporter launchpad). Nearly all the others, given away. However, if I could only talk my wife into some ceiling space, there's a 4 foot ISS model available...
"Honey, don't you think we need an international space station hanging in the living room?"

Until now, I keep them all in more or less good condition, as display pieces. On some models, sometimes a part falls apart. If I have a space problem and am not interested in that particular model anymore, it gets thrown away. (This works only for paper models as I can build them again more easily).
In general, I find designing, building and photographing much more pleasant than looking at the finished product. And for big models: I don't care if I have enough room for them before they are finished. Until now, I always found a place for them (with the Zeppelin being the first hanging from my ceiling), but if I don't, I would either disassemble it partially or throw it away after the pictures are shot. FYI, if you have models you want to get rid of, check with your local museum, not to donate for exhibits (they probably don't have any room to store them, even if they wanted to), but to donate to the museum store for sale. Every little bit helps keep the lights on.

I sell most of my models for $$$.
Always look for nostalgic formats. VFW post or Bars with names like the Air Devils In. Also small local airports. If the people are drinking a lot it helps the sales process. I love my models , but only while I am building them and posting them on this site. I have several that I think I am attached to, but find that I only look at them if people come over, or I look to see if I am getting better or worse with my skills. I know that no one in the my family will have any interest in the models after I depart this earth. I have however been thinking of cremation with my models leaving this earth with my remains. Up in smoke as the case may be.
