This is an interesting thread. The vast majority of mine are beta builds of my own kits, often with flaws of varying severity. As a result most are stripped of reusable parts and disposed of. The larger ones make good kindling in the wood stove! :D

I build up a collection that, occasionally, I have to "weed" -- the prototypes, test builds, and damaged ones get thrown out every so often. I tend to build the same model a few times when I'm designing something, so the earlier iterations are not so important.
I am, however, proud to say that my very first printed model (Cassini) is still extant in my bedroom. It was built in 1998, and it has actually held up well.

This is why I build them in 1/200. And I store them in a glass cabinet 8ft tall. Even so, it's becoming a problem in view of the numbers built!

I hoard mine everywhere. I have around 90 to 100 of my 1/200 scale planes now on my shef attached to my bed's headboard, around 200 to 400 (lost count forever ago) of other people's in drawers, and a few of my prototpyes from old designs in a little stack where I perform research on them (paper jet "engines," detachable missiles, inernal bomb bays, the usual)

Most of my models are built for playing wargames, usually BattleGround WWII by Easy Eights.
A few are built by request for someone who knows that I build papermodels.

At my rate of finishing, when and if it happens, they will be enshrined for an indeterminate period of time.

my 250 plus models were in boxes in my loft. When we moved a few months ago about half - mainly the big and very big models ended up at the local recycling yard, although some were given to others at the site.

The rest, after a lot of repairs following the move ended up in my new loft except for a few smaller ones that I display in my new (and improved) work room. I have also added a reminder of my young days when I hung plastic planes from the ceiling - now it's a few of the birdmobile models - I intend to add a few more .... sometime.

I usually keep the beta builds (uncolored ones) until I get a final colored build that I'm happy with. The beta builds generally get trashed although a friend of mine wanted my Enterprise TOS beta build and even had me sign it! The final builds I always end up giving them away.

Best Regards,
