Neil Armstrong dead at 82

Wish he would have lived to see the manned space program go further. Like to say more positive about his life but on mobile, anyone like to add?

the armstrong should be a continuing name among spacecraft.
i remember being very young, but understanding his first step on the moon, as we watched it on tv.

Agreed. I remember when I was in grade school watching him on the moon. A real American hero. He will be missed.

I remember watching the Apollo 11 mission. We had a B/W TV and watched as he came down the ladder and stepped on the moon. I have alway liked that he did not let the fame go to his head. Some did not like that but I think he was doing the right thing.
As he has been quoted as saying "He was just doing his job." But I think they(NASA) picked the right man. I will miss him as will the world..He will never be forgotten...

As I experience the accelerating loss of the heros of my youth, I find myself wondering where are their replacements? John Armstrong's passing is the loss of a true icon.

I don't remember how old/young I was at the time. I had a nice 35 mm camera and found out how to take photos off the T.V. I had my camera all set up on a tripod in front of the T.V. waiting for the landing. Most of which holding yo breath as I remember. I took a lot of photos of the event and still him them on slides. One of the greatest moments in my history. Said to say good by to a real Superman. Thank God we had people like that back then ready to hang it out over the edge with a back up ladder. I'm with Darwin in the wondering part. I hope we have these kinds of people training right now. Maybe in my life time I will see a return to NASA. Good by Neil and God bless you. I was astonished at how grreat a pilot Neil Armstrong was. When you look at his missions in Gemini and Apollo, he faced what could have been great tragedy. On the Apollo mission the landing site was inadequate. With little fuel left he continued flying until a better site was found. In Gemini, one of the attitude control rockets stuck on. He brought the spacecraft under control for re-entry. Both times he kept his cool and worked the problem. We were fortunate he was on the very missions he flew.
