Interesting Piece of Americana
Here is an interesting piece of Americana for truck lovers. That old Alco would be an interesting paper model (hint, hint).

Sure it would make a great paper model! It looks like Dave Winfield's Autocar.

Here's one of the few Alco trucks known and they still haven't found an engine for it. This is in the Hays Truck Museum in Woodland, CA just west of the Sacramento Airport.

Thanks, Darwin. That was an interesting story and an interesting truck. You're right, that would make an interesting truck model.

I've driven by that place a ton of times, and always wanted to stop. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately my wife is usually with me and we are either goin' somewhere or trying to get home.

You NEED to go there. I was sitting out front waiting for it to open the last time I was there a couple of years ago and still missed stuff. A guy on the model car board I go to was just there on my recommendation and is posting some photos and already shown 2 that I don't even remember. Here's a link to my Smugmug file if you want to check out some of the stuff: 2010-08-26 Hays Truck & Heidrich Ag Museum - whulsey's Photos

Some great pictures there, obviously taken by a modeler. A lot of nice detail. Some of them remind me of an old bone yard that was on a ranch here in upstate California. The ranchers just went out and parked the old vehicles and left them to rot, which happens very slowly in this area. They had a very old chevy flatbed (I would guess 1912 or so type variety) that had been there so long a tree had grown up through the frame but you could still move the tappets on the engine.
